    The inspiration for this work is telluric currents, electrical currents flowing in the Earth’s crust and mantle which are generated by changes in the Earth’s magnetic field. These currents are in a state of constant movement, flowing towards the sun during the day, and towards the geomagnetic poles at night. 


    The work is made by slip-casting porcelain, combined in the mould with quantities of steel needles. Together, the porcelain and the steel create a strong bond. Yet in the heat of the kiln, they repel and shrink, causing myriad fissures and fractures across the body of the clay. An expression of the push-pull conflict of materials and processes, mirroring the constant negotiation within the earth of geomagnetism, radiation and geological activity.
