EARTHBOUND

Reflections of geological deep time and the earth spinning through millennia of sunlight and shadow, the science of both investigating and exploiting the formation of rock strata through slow phases. Earth Bound is made from liquid porcelain mixed with metal needles, slip cast and hand altered. Together, the porcelain and steel create a strong bond. During drying and firing, the clay shrinks, causing myriad fissures and fractures across the body of the clay, an expression of the push-pull conflict of materials and processes, a splintering of opposing forces, mirroring the constant negotiation within the earth of geomagnetism, radiation and geological activity.
